Without further ado, let’s get started.

SMB Guide’s Verdict for Bullhorn ATS

Ultimately, this is powerful software. I gave it an 8/10 though, because there is room for improvement.

The lack of pricing transparency is a bit concerning, as is the lack of a free trial that we see many competitors offer.

I also knocked off points because it appears that phone and email are the only support channels available.

There’s no knowledge base to help people learn how to use the software, and no live chat is available.

In this review of Bullhorn, I’ve followed SMB Guide’s detailed criteria for evaluating the applicant tracking software.

Job Posting and Candidate Sourcing

Using Bullhorn, you do not have to copy and paste. It has built-in job board data capture, so you can capture the information and add it to your candidate database immediately.

You can use the Bullhorn Sidebar Google Chrome extension to add or update candidate information without leaving the job board.

Universal Search and Candidate Database

Using Bullhorn, you can search for candidates that may fit any of your open positions.

Bullhorn candidate search

You can search with keywords, skills, qualifications, etc., and narrow your search to people living within a certain distance from a particular geographic location.

Once you’ve filtered out everything and have your candidate list, you can click the name to see their resume and other information.

You can use templates for pre-screening and include other users on notes for specific candidates.

Applicant Tracking and Candidate Management

After searching your candidate database for people who could fit the position you’re trying to fill, you can move them to the pre-screening phase.

Bullhorn candidate database

Once you complete the prescreen, you select the candidates you’re interested in moving forward with and “add submission.”

From there, they’re moved into your workflow so you can choose which ones to continue moving forward with until you have filled the position.

Depending on the plan you choose, you may have access to custom workflows and automation tools to further simplify the process.

Candidate Evaluation and Assessment

The Bullhorn Marketplace has a wide selection of apps for candidate evaluation. You can use something like SkillCheck or eSkill for skill assessments.

There are also a variety of apps to help with background checks. These services may require additional fees on top of your Bullhorn subscription.

User Interface and User Experience

Relying on the pre-recorded demo meant that I could not test everything myself, but from what I could see, the user interface was easy to understand and navigate.

It can be a bit overwhelming if you’re unfamiliar with ATS and CRM, but with the live demo, you can ask questions about anything confusing.

Integrations, Compatibility, & Supported Platforms

Though I wasn’t able to test this personally since I was only able to access the recorded demo, it’s well established that Bullhorn integrates with over 100 partners to help you increase productivity, grow revenue, provide candidates with a better experience, and ultimately maximize your ROI.

Bullhorn integrations

Pre-integrated partners include LinkedIn (only on certain plans), QuickBooks, and Asurint. The cloud-based application can be accessed from any device with an internet connection.

There are also mobile apps available for Android and iOS.

Customer Support

Bullhorn prides itself on 24/7 customer support availability. Any time you have a question, no matter where you are in the world, you can pick up the phone and give them a call.

Bullhorn customer support

I didn’t find any live chat or knowledgebase on the website. I contacted someone by scheduling a live demo.

At that point, they reached out via email to find out more about my company, and then directed me to a demo of their highest-tier plan to help me complete this article.

Bullhorn — Unique Features

In addition to the ATS and CRM, Bullhorn also offers several individual services:

  • Onboarding: This integrates with your ATS and provides electronic data management, E-Verify integration, and a branded candidate portal to make it easier to onboard candidates.
  • Vendor Management System (VMS) Automation: This will connect to any major VMS to automatically update jobs, import job records to the ATS, and more.
  • Middle and Back Office: These are helpful for staffing firms because it makes it easier to process time cards and client invoicing.
  • Recruitment Automation: Herefish by Bullhorn allows you to visually build workflows, automations, triggers, and actions based on profile fields and dates to improve productivity.

What The Experts Say About Bullhorn

At the time of this review, Bullhorn has the following ratings:

  • 4/5 stars at G2 (500+ reviews)
  • 4.1/5 stars at Capterra (1K+ reviews)
  • 6.5/10 stars at TrustRadius (180+ votes)

Great product for staffing purposes and the job recruitment process makes it super simple to very complex. The learning curve can be steep but after mastering the program you can tailor your experience to however vague or detailed that you need.

Bob W., Network Engineer – Verified Capterra review

Over all it did what it said and seems to have a corner on the market but does not seem to be innovative or really bring cutting-edge ideas to the table. I felt it was an administrative task to use a bullhorn vs a tool that would empower me to grow my business.
