I’m giving this a 9/10, because it hits all the boxes for what business owners need for accounting and taxes.
Payroll is an add on, but it allows you to take care of everything in one place.
The reason it doesn’t get a perfect score? Because it requires full annual payment before you can even try the software, and doesn’t offer a prorated refund after 30 days.
This, and the process to request a refund requires a phone call.

General Ledger and Chart of Accounts
After I connected my bank account, it took a few minutes to categorize everything, but produced a fairly standard general ledger and chart of accounts.
It can be customized to your needs in a few clicks, but is enough from the start to help you see what’s going on with your business.
Bank Integration and Reconciliation
All accounts are securely connected to your dashboard through Fincity. If you cannot find your bank account in the list, you can create a manual account.
With the manual connection, your transactions won’t import. I found that it quickly and easily imported all my transactions, but a ton were uncategorized, which created a lot of work for me to do.
Financial Reporting
In my account, there were several reports to choose from, including:

- Invoices
- Mileage Log
- Reconciliations
- Transactions by Account
- Journal Entries
- General Journal
- General Ledger
You can set the time period for the report, then click “Generate Report” and get what you need.
AP and AR Management
This is one of the few platforms in the space that I’ve reviewed that includes customer management, invoicing, and accounts payable management.
Others charge more for this style of accounting or don’t include it at all.
Payroll Processing
You can add Payroll Processing to your account if you need it. You’ll pay based on the service level you choose.
Pricing isn’t mentioned on the site, and a call with the company is required before you can start, so that they can provide you with a free quote.
Because of this, I wasn’t able to personally test this part of the software.
Tax Management
Depending on the plan you choose, you can get quarterly reviews and tax planning, or you can get that and year-round tax advice, as well as assistance with filing your personal and business tax returns.
User Interface and User Experience
After logging into my dashboard, I was presented with a series of onboarding tasks to take care of. It walked me through how to use the platform, and has a calendar where you can easily book and see your appointments with the accounting team.
I found the platform incredibly easy to use – with all the menus clearly outlined in the left hand navigation. I was a bit frustrated by the lack if of a “Select All” option when categorizing my transactions.
Since I had hundreds in the “Uncategorized” section because I had to connect a personal checking account and exclude the transactions that weren’t business related, it took a lot of time – even when I searched for specific things I knew could be excluded.
Integrations, Compatibility, & Supported Platforms
1-800Accountant is a cloud-based platform so you can access it from any device with an internet connection. It connects with your bank accounts using a secure third-party platform.
If you opt for payroll services, that’s included within your Clientbooks Dashboard as well. There aren’t as many integrations as with other platforms, and there does not appear to be any API integration options.
1-800Accountant also has a mobile app available for Android and iOS users, so if you need to take care of something on the go, you can.
Customer Support
I found my experience with the 1-800Accountant customer support team to be highly positive. I booked a call for a demo to learn more about the software for the purpose of this review, which is required before you can sign up for an account.
A call was available for 30 minutes after my inquiry – and my account manager spent 30 minutes with me on the phone answering questions, learning more about my specific situation as a business owner, and explaining how their system could help me.
By the end of the call, I had paid for the service and scheduled my onboarding call for the following day.
In my dashboard, I have access to live chat with someone on the team to answer questions or address issues.
Customers who aren’t logged in can also use that live chat, phone, the FAQs or blog to get the answers they need.
1-800Accountant — Unique Features
Where most services of this nature just handle bookkeeping and accounting, 1-800Accountant also offers a service to help businesses get established as an LLC.
They don’t charge anything for this except for the state filing fee.

How do I cancel my 1-800Accountant subscription?
You must submit a cancellation request to the customer service team to cancel your subscription. Someone will reach out to you to confirm the cancellation.
If it has been more than 30 days since your purchase, you will not be eligible for a prorated refund. You can still use the service for up to a year from your purchase date, and the subscription will not renew.
Does 1-800Accountant have an app?
Yes, 1-800Accountant has an app for both Android and iOS devices. You can download the Android app from the Google Play Store, and download the iOS app from the Apple App Store.
