SMB Guide’s overall rating for LastPass is 8.8 out of 10.

LastPass’s key features are well-thought-out and easy to use; managing all passwords and other data is a breeze with the help of the web vault and browser extension.

Other features offered by LastPass include numerous two-factor authentication choices, different alternatives for recovering an account, safe password sharing across multiple users, audits of password security, and emergency access.

Pricing & Plans

LastPass offers two types of pricing plans: personal plans and business plans.

LastPass personal pricing

For personal use, LastPass offers three different plans for consumers: Free, Premium, and Family.

The Free plan includes common password manager features like auto-filling, password generator, secure notes, password strength report, and multi-factor authentication support.

However, the free version of LastPass restricts vault syncing to one device. LastPass’s free plan offers greater features than the majority of password managers.

Though LastPass Free is undoubtedly among the greatest free password managers available, this plan lacks sophisticated 2FA and emergency access features.

The Premium plan includes advanced features such as one-to-many password sharing, advanced multi-factor options, Emergency Access features, priority tech support, and 1GB encrypted file storage.

LastPass Family, the most expensive option for personal use offers many other features including access to the LastPass family dashboard, six LastPass Premium licenses, and an unlimited number of shared folders.

LastPass business pricing

The Business plans offered by LastPass include Teams and Business plans.

The options offered by LastPass for businesses are affordable and have many great features for password management for organizations.

The Teams plan can accommodate up to 50 users and offers basic multi-factor authentication. Whereas, the business plan offers unlimited users and unlocks all advanced features of the software.

For a little more fee per user, you can also add on Advanced MFA, a feature that offers straightforward multi-factor authentication without a password, and Advanced SSO, which expands LastPass’s single sign-on to an unlimited number of cloud services.

The software does not offer a money-back guarantee and all of its services are invoiced annually. Nevertheless, cancelling your LastPass membership is a simple process.

LastPass offers a trial version for individual users and a free trial for all of its commercial services. You can get a 30 days free trial for families and single users, and 14 days free trial for enterprises.

Multi-factor Security & Authentication

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) and two-factor authentication (2FA) are supported by LastPass to further secure the data.

This platform offers adaptive verification, a multi-factor authentication system that modifies the necessary authentication variables based on user behavior and risk indications.

LastPass Multi-factor authentication

Users get a wide range of alternatives for the second factor including LastPass authenticator,  mobile applications, software-based services and hardware tokens.

The LastPass Authenticator app is available for free download on the Windows Store, Apple Store, and Google Play stores.

Depending on your subscription tier, different multi-factor authentication ways are available. As an additional authentication method, premium users can employ hardware keys such as YubiKey or biometric choices.

Since it can become tiresome to use multi-factor authentication, LastPass allows you to designate particular devices as trusted for thirty days.

All you need is the master password if you log in using a reliable device. You can remove a misplaced device from the trusted list and also prevent logins from any device that isn’t already on the trusted list for greater control.

One-time Passwords

With its one-time password feature, LastPass helps you avoid risks if you’re using a device that isn’t yours to access your web vault in case the device is equipped with a keylogger or any other software that might record your keystrokes.

You can use this feature to log in without disclosing your master password.

LastPass one-time passwords

Each passcode has an expiration date after use, and you can use them later. This means that you cannot log into an account twice using the same passcode.

Additionally, you can use these one-time passwords for emergency recovery by printing them or safeguarding them using different ways.

Password Capture and Generation

LastPass offers to store your login credentials when you check in to a secure website. It gives an option to import passwords from your web browsers.

You can also instruct LastPass to never save a password for the website, or allocate the recorded login to a new or existing folder.

LastPass password capture

You can import your password to LastPass from 1Password, Bitwarden, Dashlane, KeePass, Keeper. Passwords saved in Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Edge can also easily be imported into LastPass.

With three different ways to generate secure passwords, LastPass’s password generator is pretty easy to use. It is available through the browser extension, the Security Dashboard within the online application, or the in-field icon.

It is possible to create passwords up to 99 characters long, while the default length is 16. Lowercase, capital, numeric, and symbol characters are all allowed in the passwords.

The password generator can generate passwords that are both “easy to say” and “easy to read.” This is a really great feature for passwords that you may need to share with other people.

However, these customization options are only available through the web dashboard.

Password Sharing

Although exchanging passwords should be avoided in many cases, there are some times when you need to share them, for eg: sharing your home WiFI password with family members and guests.

LastPass password sharing

Only one-to-one sharing can be configured for free LastPass users. However, sharing an item with multiple users can be set up for Premium and Family members.

An infinite number of folders can be shared by users who subscribe to a Family account. It’s simple to share a password with LastPass.

The person who shares the password can control the recipient’s access to the credentials through the web vault’s Sharing Center.

It is under your control to determine whether the receiver can view the password when they have it, as well as to disconnect or give up access to credentials that you have shared with other people.

User Interface and User Experience

LastPass is a simple, intuitive program to use. Importing and exporting passwords is easy using this password organizer and other password managers and browsers can be imported and exported.

Passwords can be easily transferred in bulk, so you can export or import a large number of them at once.

LastPass interface

The software is also incredibly easy to install and set up. To set up a LastPass account, all you need to do is enter your email address and choose a master password.

LastPass offers a brief description of what constitutes a strong master password and suggests that you make a completely random password.

Integrations and Compatibility

With LastPass, you can quickly and easily implement the software on your current IT infrastructure and take immediate control of all points of access to your company.

LastPass integrations

It’s simple to set up your password manager and straightforward to maintain as your business grows and changes with no other external services or tools required.

LastPass offers the following integrations:

  • Integrations with Directories – Directories can be integrated with LastPass Business to facilitate easy onboarding, day-to-day management, and real-time account provisioning. It can automate access to the user’s vault that manages all of the apps and passwords that are stored there.
  • Federated Login – With Microsoft Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), Okta, Azure Active Directory, Google Workspace, PingFederate, and PingOne.

With the help of federated login, businesses can use their Identity Provider to remove the requirement for a second password to access their LastPass vault, giving users access to all of their work applications with just one password.

Additionally, if you’re using a custom API or another alternative, LastPass API allows you to manage user provisioning with LastPass API.

  • Single Sign-On – By allowing users to log in just once and use their designated apps without ever needing to key in a password again, single sign-on (SSO) improves user experience and efficiency. With a library of more than 1,200 pre-connected apps, LastPass Business provides an integrated SSO portal that lets you quickly get users started.

The iOS and Android mobile apps offer an identical experience to the browser and extensions. In addition to taking the security challenge, viewing and editing your entries, and auto-filling passwords are all available.

Using autofill in mobile apps is simple and works on both iOS and Android devices. It is simple to log in and enter passwords with LastPass when you have it configured with biometric authentication.

LastPass will automatically log you out of the account on mobile devices.

Customer Support

In terms of available support channels, LastPass’s customer service is rather restricted. Only customers with Personal and Business plans have access to phone support and 24/7 web support.

Although phone help is limited to certain plans, email support is easily accessible for all users. The software features a chatbot that uses the data and queries you enter to try and answer your problem and presents multiple possibilities for each response.

If the issue still can’t be fixed, you can open a support ticket by entering your email address in a support form. You can additionally use the knowledge library to find solutions for typical concerns and difficulties that LastPass users can run into.

The LastPass articles and forums can be accessed by individual users and businesses. You can find solutions for several specific problems on the forum website, which has discussions on a wide range of business-related subjects.

LastPass — Unique Features

Here are LastPass’s most unique features I loved and think you would too!

Emergency access

The Emergency Access function allows you to specify one or more people who can gain access to your credentials in the case of your untimely death.

However, this feature is not available for free users.

LastPass emergency access

You can provide the email address of the recipient and specify the amount of time to wait. The recipients need to approve your connection request and install LastPass.

The waiting period is important to protect you in case your dependable receiver chooses to obtain your passwords while you still use them.

You receive a notification when the initial request for access is triggered, and you have the option to reject it at any point throughout the waiting period.

When that time passes, your beneficiary instantly gains access in case of a true emergency.

Secure notes and cloud storage

If you have data stored in your LastPass account that doesn’t fall under any other category, you may also store it in secure notes.

LastPass secure notes

Online storage is available only to Premium LastPass members, with a 1GB maximum storage cap and this storage cannot be upgraded.

You have to link an attachment to an item in order to store it in LastPass.

FAQs

Is using LastPass better than Chrome?

If someone gains control over your Google account, they will have access to all of your saved passwords. However, LastPass is more secure because it is a standalone password management vault.

Can I give someone else access to a password I have in my LastPass vault?

Sending an email invitation to anyone allows you to easily share login credentials and other information from your LastPass database. However, to access the data you share with them, users who do not have a LastPass account must create one.

LastPass Premium and other paid plans allow you to share passwords with multiple users but LastPass Free only allows you to share any password input with one other user.

The ability to share passwords with someone without their knowledge is a great feature of LastPass’s sharing feature. This allows the recipient to access the password without knowing it.

What can I do if my password for LastPass is lost?

LastPass offers several ways to retrieve your LastPass account in case you lose access to it. In addition to offering password resets and tips, the platform lets you use FaceID or TouchID to access your account on an iOS device.

You can also get in contact with their customer service department.
