Customizable Chat Widgets
Building your first Userlike chatbot is simple. Using the Widget Editor, you’ll start with the basics: the widget’s name, language, default topic, and Messenger URL.
The default topic defines the purpose of the widget, such as marketing, conversion, FAQ answers, promotion, quiz, etc.
Next, you’ll customize the appearance of your chatbox. Choices include primary and secondary colors, position, operator avatar, an icon, shape, and position for the messenger button.
With the Flex plan, you can also use css to select a custom font.
You can also customize the button’s behavior, from silent to pop-up or banner.
Next, you’ll customize the wording of your message, depending on the bot’s purpose. You choose where each message will appear and what it will say.
Interaction preferences
You also define how your chatbot interacts with your visitors using dropdown selections:
- Behavior: Set transcripts for how conversations will start and go from there, and enable voice messages, transcripts, and data tracking.
- Routing: Decide how visitors will be routed depending on what they ask for.

“Normal” is the default chat mode, where the chat button is always visible, and any visitor can initiate a chat with a click. Other modes are:
- Registration – Visitors can start a chat after filling in a name and email address.
- Proactive – A message bubble pops up above the chat button when your visitors have been on the page for a specified period of time.
- Proactive / registration – A combination of the above. After the time you define passes, a popup bubble appears, followed by a registration screen.
Messenger board
When enabled, the messenger board is the home page of your chatbot, the first page visitors see when they click the chat button. If the messenger board is not enabled, visitors go directly to a chat screen.
The message board gives visitors additional options, such as contact links and answers to FAQs.
The fine-tuning continues so you can decide how to handle unanswered calls, whether you want to gather location information for visitors, and if you want to give users the option of video or audio calls with live operators.
You’ll also be able to select what types of media files you want to allow visitors to share and enable tracking.

Unlike other SaaS apps and programs, Userlike has a very generous user allotment and feature set for the price. As the marketing manager of our company, I use many of the features to gauge the effectiveness of chats, wordsmith chat scripts, push pages, set topics, and have a very transparent view of chats.
