Encharge is a marketing automation platform that’s been making waves since its launch in 2018. With its powerful automation capabilities, Encharge helps SaaS businesses automate their email marketing campaigns.
But does it live up to the hype?
Let’s take a closer look at what Encharge has to offer and see if it’s the right tool for your business.
SMB Guide’s Verdict for Encharge
Encharge earns a solid 8.8 out of 10 rating based on our evaluation.
One of its standout features is its extensive personalization and customization options. Plus, Encharge’s integration capabilities are impressive as it covers many popular applications.
Regarding the drawbacks, Encharge doesn’t offer a free plan. While it provides a free trial, users need to subscribe to a paid plan for continued use. This might be a limitation for individual users like freelancers seeking a completely free solution.

Marketing Automation Capabilities
To begin with, Encharge offers a user-friendly automation platform with a clean interface. The main automation flow creation page features a white background and a clear layout, so it’ll be easy for you to navigate the platform.
To start automating, just click the “Create Flow” button. This action will give you a variety of pre-built templates to jumpstart the automation process. I chose the “Capture Mailchimp Subscribers With a Lead Magnet and Send a Nurture Sequence” template.
Once a template is selected, you’re taken to the flow editor, as shown below.
The editor gives you a visual canvas where you can:
- Add and arrange steps: Drag and drop various elements to create your desired workflow.
- Set conditions: Define the criteria that trigger actions within the flow.
- Apply tags: Tagging functionality allows for better organization and segmentation of contacts as they move through the automation.
- Configure rules: Set up logic-based rules to determine how contacts progress through the flow.
What I like here is that the editing process is straightforward and doesn’t require any technical knowledge. To modify any element, you need to simply click on it to access its settings.
Email Builder
You’ll find a user-friendly drag-and-drop email editor at your fingertips. To access it, simply click the “Create Email” button, and you’re ready to start creating your email.
One of the first things you’ll notice is the conveniently placed preview button in the center of the interface. This feature allows you to toggle between desktop and mobile views. I liked the smooth transition between these views—no waiting around for the preview to load.
On the right side of the editor, you’ll find a toolkit packed with content options. Here, you can add various elements to your email:
- Text blocks
- Images
- Videos
- Social share buttons
- Column layouts
- Call-to-action buttons
- And more
You can upload your own images and place them within your email design. When it comes to text customization, you can adjust fonts, sizes, and colors—standard features you’d expect in any email builder, but Encharge presents them in a clean layout.
A standout feature you’ll see is the “Magic Writer” which is an AI-powered writing assistant. When you click on this tool, a new interface pops up, asking what type of content you want to create. Options include subject lines, email outlines, and more.
For example, if you choose to create an email outline:
- You’ll input a brief description of your email’s purpose
- You can set the desired tone for the content
- The AI generates a bulleted list based on your prompt
I gave it a try and you can see the result below:
I must say this feature adds great value, especially if you sometimes struggle with writer’s block or need a quick starting point for your email content.
Personalization and Customization
One of the key features is its support for dynamic content insertion. This means that you can personalize specific words or create dynamic content sections in your emails based on recipient attributes, behaviors, or segmentation criteria.
For example, you can use merge tags to insert a recipient’s name into the salutation of your email, or you can create a dynamic content block that displays different products or recommendations based on the recipient’s purchase history.
Besides dynamic content insertion, Encharge also offers Liquid support. Liquid is a templating language that allows you to create complex email content. With Liquid, you can create conditional statements, loops, and other logic to personalize your emails in even more sophisticated ways.
Another feature of Encharge that I find valuable is its reusable modules. This allows you to create custom content modules with user data and reuse them in your emails.
Campaign Performance Tracking
You can access Encharge’s reporting functionality through the Metrics panel. It offers you two main categories of insights: flow metrics and email metrics.
When you select flow metrics, you’ll see data for all the automation flows you’ve created over the past 30 days by default. The report includes:
- Goal conversion rate (displayed as a %)
- Number of people who completed the goal in each flow
- Delivery statistics
- Open rates
- Click rates
- Click-through rates (CTR)
- Other relevant metrics
For email performance, you can view standard metrics such as:
- Open rates
- Click rates
- Reply rates
- Unsubscribe numbers
- Bounce rates
- Spam reports
You can select specific emails you created in the past for detailed analysis. Encharge allows you to adjust the time frame (e.g., yesterday, this week, last month, this quarter) for your reports.
When it comes to exporting your reports, Encharge currently only supports PDF downloads. This limitation means you can’t export data in JPG or CSV formats, which might be inconvenient if you need to perform further analysis.
User Interface and User Experience
The flow builder, which is at the heart of Encharge’s automation capabilities, impressed me with its user-friendly design. The canvas-style interface makes it simple to visualize and construct complex automation sequences.
Moving on to the email editor, I found a good balance between simplicity and functionality. The interface is uncluttered, with tools neatly arranged on the side panel.
Encharge offers a selection of pre-designed email templates that cater to different use cases. While the template library isn’t as extensive as some dedicated email marketing platforms, I found the available designs modern.
One aspect that stood out to me was the consistency in design across different sections of the platform. Whether I was creating a flow, designing an email, or reviewing metrics, the interface maintained a cohesive look.
Integrations and Compatibility
Encharge has many direct third-party integrations which cover popular platforms across many business functions, including analytics, payment processing, advertising, scheduling, CRM, email marketing, and team communication.
Some of its integrations are Segment, Stripe, Facebook Ads, Calendly, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Slack, and Google Analytics.
For applications not directly supported, Encharge integrates with Zapier. This integration allows you to connect Encharge with many additional applications of your choice.
Customer Support
Encharge provides live chat support, a knowledge base, and video resources with all its plans. They typically respond to inquiries within 12 hours, as stated on their website.
If you need more personalized help, you can book a free one-on-one consultation call. And if you’re a developer, you’ll appreciate their developer docs section, which has detailed information on how to use their API.
Plus, Encharge has a Facebook community, which is a great way to connect with other users and learn from their experiences.
One of the best things about Encharge is that they offer free done-for-you onboarding and migration for their yearly premium plans. This means that their team will help you set up your account and transfer your data from your old email marketing platform.
But keep in mind that there are limitations on the number of emails and flows that can be transferred.
Encharge — Unique Features

Lead scoring
Encharge goes beyond traditional email marketing by offering a powerful lead scoring feature. This feature helps you identify your most promising leads by assigning points based on their website, email, and product engagement.
Here’s how Encharge’s lead scoring works:
- Track user behavior: Encharge monitors user activity across various channels, like website visits, email opens and clicks, and product usage.
- Assign points: Based on your ideal customer profile, you can assign point values to different actions. For example, visiting your pricing page might receive a higher score than reading a blog post.
- Identify hot leads: Encharge creates a score for each user based on their accumulated points. Users with higher scores are likely more interested in your product, so you can prioritize them for sales outreach.

ActiveCampaign is a popular customer experience automation tool that combines email marketing, marketing automation, and CRM capabilities into a single solution. ActiveCampaign’s key features include an automation builder, advanced segmentation, dynamic content, A/B testing, and an extensive integration library.

Mailchimp
Mailchimp started as a simple email service provider but has evolved into a comprehensive marketing automation and customer engagement tool. Its key features are a drag-and-drop email builder, audience management, marketing automation, and in-depth reporting and analytics.
While Encharge and Mailchimp share some fundamental email marketing and automation capabilities, I’d say the key difference lies in their overall focus and target audience.
Mailchimp is designed for small to medium-sized businesses and solopreneurs who prioritize ease of use and a more template-driven approach to email marketing. In contrast, Encharge is geared towards growth-focused teams that require more advanced automation and customization options.
